About Huatulco

Oaxaca's coast is the home of nine glorious bays of benevolent climate, uneven relief and extraordinary natural beauty. The favorite of tourists who like to have an endless number of water, sports and recreation activities framed by an abundant and generous nature, the Bays of Huatulco are a modern and much visited tourism destination.

Inhabited during the Prehispanic era by Mixteca Indians, the zone was called Cuahtolco, meaning "“place of lumber exploit"”. During the Spanish Conquest, particularly during the decade of 1530, the port of Huatulco was confirmed as a commercial center. However, this attracted the attention of many European pirates, including famous pirates of the era as Thomas Cavendish and was victim of constant attacks.

The tourism development of the Pacific Coast of Oaxaca has been supported by the federal government since 1969 and currently the region has a great supply of hotels, restaurants, bars and nightclubs, shops, guides and other tourism entertainment activities. Additionally, it is very well connected by land, air and sea through the Puerto Escondido "– Salina Cruz and Oaxaca "– Pochutla highways and one international airport.
