About Orizaba

Inhabited by Toltec, Chichimec and finally Tlaxcaltec, the pre-columbine past of the beautiful Orizaba city of Veracruz is very diverse. Founded in 1519 by Hernan Cortes on his way to Mexico City, it reached the category of villa in 1774 under King Carlos III. And in the year 1830 it was officially granted the city title.

Soon after it opened the doors of the first textile factory "“Cocoloapan"” and also wrote the pages of the first city newspaper "“La Luz"” and at the end of the XIX century it saw the birth of the great Cervecería Moctezuma. Along those days, Mexico's best landscape painter was in the best moment of his career; his most famous work is "“El Puente de Metlac"”.

Its geographic location corresponds to the mountainous central region of Veracruz State in the valley of the famous Pico de Orizaba volcano with a height of 1,236 meters above sea level, for which it is surrounded by mountains like Del Borrego and San Cristobal. Crossed from north to south by the river of the same name, the city currently has 32 bridges and therefore known as Nuestra Señora de los Puentes. Of humid warm climate, it registers high rainfall between June and September. The average annual temperature is 69.8ºF, reaching 95ºF in the summer.

The currently outstanding industries in the city's economy are of textiles, breweries, steel, chemicals and glass. However, the commerce sector is the strongest in the State.
