Politics of Sinaloa
The progress of Sinaloa has traditionally relied on agriculture, fishing and tourism. Agriculture is extremely important for this State as it creates jobs for 26% of its workforce, thus contributing to income, wellbeing and progress for the population associated to the fields. Its hydro agricultural infrastructure and vastest irrigation surface is outstanding, occupying first place in the production of corn and chickpeas. It also produces grains, potatoes and tomatoes. Horticulture is the productive occupation of more than 150,000 workers who cyclically migrate to this State from the countryâs south and central regions and for more than 50,000 Sinaloa citizens. Livestock farming is also very relevant for social and business issues by having 50,000 producers solely dedicated to this activity. Sinaloa has registered 1,600,000 cattle, 1,300,000 pork and 218,000 sheep heads. The production of intensive livestock production is stimulated by being the leading producer of grains and harvests, in addition to being self-sufficient in the production of some agro-industrial by products such as molasses and oil crops favorable for livestock nutrition. Pork and poultry farming are activities with a high technological level, enabling access to international markets. Pork breeding maintains a production balanced with local demand, while poultry has an excess of meat and eggs available for exports. Fishing is also very relevant in Sinaloa for the amount of jobs it creates, income and regional development. This entity has a coastal extension of 656 kilometers and more than 70,000 hectares of continental waters, where 154 fishing communities are found with a work force of 65,000 fishermen main dedicated to capturing tuna, shrimp, tilapia, crab, oysters and scales. Its port infrastructure as the economyâs window to the world and tourism industries are also relevant for this wonderful State, full of wealth and beautiful traditions.
