Politics of Veracruz

Veracruz is a state known for its agricultural, forestry and fishing vocation, but also for its great industrial production structure that places it as national leader in areas such as basic petrochemistry and electricity. Veracruz has sixth place among the national economy. Its main productive activities are agriculture, farming, metal industry, food, beverages, tobacco, petrochemistry and electricity, The unique geographic diversity of Veracruz offers an immense array of crops and a vast selection of derivates. This state has first place in the country as a producer of sugar cane, rice, orange, pineapple, lemon, vanilla and rubber; second place in coffee, tobacco and papaya; and it is also an important producer of corn, beans, soy, cucumber, watermelon, mango, grapefruit and bananas. Coffee is one of the most important agroindustrial products for making this state second place in the national production. The potential of the agriculture of Veracruz also translates into a great variety of non-traditional products, such as Dominican banana, kiwi, litchi, passion fruit, macadamia nuts, jamaica, raspberries and mamey, products with a high commercial value with great opportunities in worldwide markets. The livestock farming of Veracruz has placed this state as the first producer of beef in the country and among the first beef suppliers. The entity also holds its place among the most important producers of poultry and honey in the country. This state is the main producer of shrimp, sawfish and trout. It is he second largest producer of carp and oysters and the third in crab and clams. In the industrial branch, Veracruz has fourth place as the largest mining producer Nationwide. There are five mining regions within Veracruz, including Los Tuxtlas (southeast), Zongolica-Atoyac (center), Huayacocotla (northeast), Chiconquiaco (center) and Istmo (southwest), kaolin being its main mineral produced. Veracruz has first place in basic petrochemical products. There are five of the most important petrochemical complexes in the country: Cosoleacaque, Pajaritos, La Cangrejera and Morelos in Coatzacoalcos and Escolín in Poza Rica. The rest of the manufacturing activity is focused on the food and beverage industry, iron and steel; sugar and dairy products.
